Pirojpur (Bengali: পিরোজপুর) is a district (zila) in south-western Bangladesh. It is part of Barisal Division.[1] It is located besides the Boleswor river at 22 30’ 00" N 89 52’ 00" E & 22 52’-00" N 90 13’00" E and bounded by Gopalgonj, Barisal District on the north, Barguna District on the south, Jhalokati District on the east and Bagerhat
on the west. It is declared as a district in 1 March 1984. It consists of seven Upazilas, three Pourasavas and fifty one Unions. The area of
the town is small but everything is built in a planned way and also very
clean. There are different buses to facilitate communication with other
district as well as inside the district. Water routes also connect this
district with the capital city, Khulna, Barisal etc all through the year. Some og the important rivers in the district are Boleshhwar, Kocha and Sandha.
Most of the land is low-lying plain 10-19 feet above sea level and
the soil is fertile. It is a tidal and cyclone-affected area; as a result the inhabitants of this district faces a challenge every year.
The minimum temperature is 8 to 9 c and maxim temperature is 38 c in summer; annual average rain fall is 2240mm. Pirojpur is one of the
potential district in Bangladesh in all respect.
